‘The closely similar and even identical plant history of each of the southern continents, including Antarctica, can only be explained by continental drift.’
Millions of years ago, Antarctic used to be part of a giant, warm continent called Gondwana.
Dr Edna Plumstead studied fossil samples from Antarctica, South Africa, South America, India, and Australia.
She found the same types of plants in each area, even though they are now thousands of miles apart.
This discovery showed that the continents had once been joined together and had since broken apart got further away over time—a theory known as continental drift.
